Foxxtrot chapter four

Odd-nose rose to his paws, the sun soaked the earth weakly, melting away bits of snow. He pricked his ears cautiously as a hawk dove down, its wings beating silently against the wind. He breathed in slightly and released a great sigh. Sagome and Kuro still had yet to return, their scents were stale from the night before. He snarled, pacing back and forth with great irritation. Over and over the though crossed his mind, what exactly were the two up to? He shook his head bitterly and trotted around the camp, greeting each member as they passed by. Once more, Dark-paw appeared, a gleaming smile coming across her face, “good morning Odd-nose,” she said with a gentle tone. Odd-nose scoffed and attempted a smile, a weak one, which wasn’t hard to tell, “Good morning Dark-paw, how goes hunting.” He sighed, what a stupid topic to speak of. She folded her ears back in recognition; her smile seemed to gleam much brighter. “Well, hunting isn’t as great as it used to be, being as its winter.” She sighed. “Tail-tips and her pups aren’t going to have enough to last the—“
               Odd-nose glanced at her with harsh eyes, “nothing will stop us from trying to survive, don’t doubt our tribe members like that.” He snarled and dashed off, irritation sparking from his pelt. Dark-paw stood in her place, frowning as if her whole world were turned upside down. “I-I’m just worried for their health,” she whimpered to herself. She sighed with great depression “but I bet if I were Sagome, it wouldn’t have mattered what I said, even if I snarled and bit your tongue off, you’d still feel the same…” she grimaced and folded her ears back. Was she really that plain compared to Sagome? She trudged sadly, dragging her three tails low to the ground. A heavy feeling dwelled in her heart, and it felt like it was pulling her down deeper and deeper with each paw step. A bold black stood out and stopped her in her tracks.
A pink nose sniffed her lightly and smiled. “Well, what’s the trouble lil missy~,” he smirked playfully and nodded his head proudly. “You’re always worried about that dumb ass fox, Odd-nose, if I were you, Dark-paw, I’d chase after some one like Niji, he’s got a good heart, I’d say.” He curled his lips back, and smirked, showing his fangs, “or you could continue chasing after that dick-head.” Dark-paw shook her head and sat herself down firmly, brushing herself amongst a small patch of bushes. “What’s with you Norii? I’m a big girl now, I can watch myself, and Odd-nose might not notice me, but that doesn’t make him cold hearted. And if I recall correctly, you’re pretty much taken by Merii. And here you still flirt with girls.” Norii raised an eyebrow in suspicion. “Me and Merii are just friends, nothing more. God you stupid girls, always assuming shit. And besides, I don’t much like merit in that way, sure she’s cute, but she’s just my friend.” Dark-paw scoffed and swatted a sheathed paw at him “That’s kinda how it is with me and Odd-nose. He only….sees me as a comrade…and nothing more… “She sighed once more. Hey, I know what we could do. Lets fight. “She smirked, while she raised her hackles and bristled her fur out. “ Come on Norii, take me on.” Norii shook his head irritably, “No no, Dark-paw, you know I don’t fight, it’s not good for the kit, your gonna make them think they can kill eve enemy in their paths if you fight with me now. “ He gave her an odd look.
Norii railed a paw and glanced behind him quickly. “How about….We do lil ol’ odd-nose a favor and go look for Sagome, I’m sure it’d please him very much if you did that.” Dark-paw felt hot under her pelt, flexing her claws in and out thinking of his reaction. She shook her head and snarled, “NO! I won’t find that Fox! She’s a menace to me and this whole tribe; she’s corrupted odd-nose and even Kuro, our top combatants. Why would I look for an enemy?” Norii sighed with irritation, “We get the point, and you’re the jealous type, now shut up, geeze.” He rose to his paws and trotted away. “Might as well talk to Toko and Merii, they’ll be worried to death about you. Obviously, I irritate the shit outta ya, so I’m heading out, see ya. “He turned his tail towards the exit and stopped to glance at odd-nose, an irritated look crossing his face. He folded his ears back and grew close to odd-nose’s face, “DICK-HEAD” he turned heel and trotted out of the camp, with nothing more to say.
Dark-paw rose to her feet one more and strode silently over to a small area filled with large rocks big enough for the foxes to lie on. The sun filtered through the trees and dappled with rocks with sunlight. Merii and Toko’s ears both lifted up and they glanced down to dark-paw. Toko smiled. “How are you Dark-paw?” Dark-paw sighed and tucked a tail under her belly, a look of sorrow washing over her sapphire eyes. “Odd-nose is mad at me again, it seems all that I do is wrong in his eyes.” She whimpered lightly and sat down on a smooth rock. Merii lowered her head and laid down comfortably on her paws. She snarled and glanced at Dark-paw, “You’re an idiot sometimes, and can’t you see he has no interest? He’s just gonna hurt you in the end.” Dark-paw glanced at Merii and shook her head, “You’re the one who introduced us, and I’m not giving up just because he likes Sagome. He’ll notice me one day, you’ll see, and I’ll show him what Sagome will never show him! Compassion!” She rose to her paws and smiled. “Odd-nose will grow to love me as much as I love him, weather he likes it or not.” The sun made her eyes glow, even though they were over whelmed with happiness. She wasn’t going to be showed up; she was going to show the world what she really was capable off.

                     Dawn had come sooner then expected and Odd-nose dashed quickly to the tribe entrance. His tail was wagging quickly, Sagome was back. She strode into the camp without even noticing odd-nose and continued on talking with Kuro. Odd-nose sighed. They had to have done something, she was acting to comfortable. He followed after them and smiled warmly at her. “Hey Sagome, how was your time away from camp? “ Sagome glared at him and bristled her pelt “Don’t act so friendly with me, if you were my friend, you would have stuck up for me last evening while Kankumatsu flared my pelt with insults, but you stood there silent as the rest of the tribe, I regret even calling you my comrade!” She continued walking off, never glancing back at him, only talking with Kuro.
He folded his ears down and sighed heavily, his paws felt like they were covered with stones. Odd-nose turned and bumped into Dark-paw, a weak smile creasing his face. “Hey Dark-paw.” Dark-paw stared at him with disappointed eyes, seeming as if tears were to stream. “What do you see in her?” Odd-nose stopped and stared deeply at her. Why was she asking him this, why would she care to know? They were nothing more then comrades, why would he bother to tell her anything? She snarled and trotted off “you don’t even know why you care so much for her, I think you’re blind. One day you’ll be swatted in the face, I just hope by then there’s still enough time for you to realize you have what you wanted right in front of you all along.”
